In Books II and III the DCFR contains many rules derived from the Principles of European Contract Law (PECL). These rules have been adopted with the express agreement of the Commission on European Contract Law, whose successor group is the Study Group. Tables of derivations and destinations will help the reader to trace PECL articles within the DCFR. However, the PECL could not simply be incorporated as they stood. Deviations were unavoidable in part due to the different purpose, structure and coverage of the DCFR and in part because the scope of the PECL needed to be broadened so as to embrace matters of consumer protection.
