This Part applies to any type of voluntarily assumed personal security and, in particular, to:

(a): dependent personal securities, including those assumed by binding comfort letters;
(b): independent personal securities, including those assumed by stand-by letters of credit; and
(c): co-debtorship for security purposes.

(2)

This Part does not apply to insurance contracts. In the case of a guarantee insurance, this Part applies only if and in so far as the insurer has issued a document containing a personal security in favour of the creditor.

This Part does not affect the rules on the aval and the security endorsement of negotiable instruments, but does apply to security for obligations resulting from such an aval or security endorsement.
